Universities in Gujarat

Gujarat has one of the largest higher education systems in western India. Its older public universities, such as Gujarat University in Ahmedabad and the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in Vadodara, both date from 1949, and between them they cover hundreds of arts, science, commerce, education and law colleges. Over the last two decades a large number of private universities have opened, mostly around Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Vadodara.

Most arts, science, commerce, education and law colleges of the state universities now admit students through the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) portal. Engineering and pharmacy seats are filled through ACPC and ACPDC, and medical and dental seats through NEET counselling. Girls pay reduced or no tuition fees for many courses in government and grant-in-aid colleges.
